    Examples do more than decorate an explanation: they show how an abstract rule behaves when real constraints enter the picture. In instructional writing, the strongest ones state the starting conditions, expose each decision, and end with an outcome that readers can check rather than merely trust. A worked example of a budgeting model, for instance, makes its assumptions visible through test data, so the effect of changing income, costs, or timing can be measured instead of guessed. That transparency also reveals where a method breaks down, which is often more valuable than a flawless demonstration. Editors should therefore choose cases that are representative without being overcomplicated, explain unusual details, and vary the scenarios enough to show the rule’s limits.
